![]() ![]() Better to appeal to a more mature, richer market who isn't into that sort of thing as much - who want a good, exciting game, not weak-ass perv material. as most of them are off playing LoL/DotA2). All it served to do was appeal, WEAKLY, to a niche market who make up a very small proportion of WoW players (esp. So Metzen's daughter helped him to realize that this sort of bikini-armour nonsense was just that - nonsense. They're a niche market, not a rich one, and they no longer dictate where games are going. The real message you need to take from this is that "horny teenage boys" are no longer, if they ever were, a primary market for WoW, perhaps not for Blizzard at all. It's not that it's inappropriate for little kids, it's that there's absolutely no reason for these characters to run around half-naked in a war environment other than to appeal to teenagers going through puberty. If that's your point, you presented it terribly by trying to claim this was some sort of "nannying" thing and griping about the age of a child who witnessed WoW. You're missing the point there, forget that Metzen lets his kid play a game that's rated above her age (which doesn't really matter at all) and try and read his quote. "Hey, why are you dressed like tha-" "I do what I want!"Īnd idk why you posted this crap in the general wow forums, but okay. It's like you're doing nothing but giving people the finger cause you don't like to be dissected without even attempting a real argument. How liberating that'd be, right? I'm sure we'd be better off for sure. What are you proposing? That nobody ever make any judgements about anyone else and we all live and let live with everything and become a world that's totally open to anything? Oh, man, no right and no wrong. So it's a bit backwards to pick this one issue and make it the one that's special when you know damn well you do it all the time. You judge people, I judge people, we all judge people. You don't want to be judged, but you get judged. Yeah, I'm pretty sure anyone and everyone can. I also completely fail to see how anyone, at all, is harmed by this change, but it's obvious that a less sexualized game - given that it's only female characters who are sexualized - is better for the broad audience WoW aims for (and usually obtains).ĮDIT - Even if male characters were sexualized (which they aren't, unlike, say, some males in TERA), a less sexualized game generally is going to be more appealing to more people outside of a specific nerdy "I perv on my character" kind of niche - and WoW doesn't want to be, nor benefits from being, a niche game. His daughter asked a legitimate question. You have to actually ignore what was said to do that. Indeed there's no legitimate way to even interpret Metzen's comments as "OMG THINK OF THE CHILDREN!". This merely about "out of the mouths of babes." (comes wisdom), not "OMG THINK OF THE CHILDREN". The thread title comparison is completely false. Stop actively searching for things to be offended by.BINGBINGBING we have a winner! He was pointing out that his kid's question made him realize that there is no reason for Sylvanas to even be wearing a bikini other than to sexualize the character. He's not changing the game to make it suitable for his kid. That parent works to get the game itself changed instead. It's HER choice, and no-one can TELL HER it's right or wrong).ģ. That parent being so bad a parent that they cannot explain things to their child (Hint: Sylvanas is a grown-up, and she wears whatever she wants. no, ENCOURAGING their child to play a game not rated suitable for them.Ģ. ![]() Chris Metzen let his underage daughter play a game rated far above her age, and because he couldn't explain as a parent, he's instead changing the HotS character to make it suitable for the K for Kids rating?Īm I the only one who sees many, many things wrong with this?ġ. My title for this thread is of extreme importance. Metzen explained: "My 8yr old girl (who is too young to play WoW, rated T for Teen) was playing WoW, and said "Daddy, why is the lady wearing a bikini?" And I told her I don't know. but it's the reason cited that really irks me. Personally, I don't mind it when characters get costume updates. The forums are up in arms, with vitriol being flung back and forth about Sylvanas' HotS costume update (less skin). ![]()
